Abstract:
Creating Market Conditions for the Delivery of Health Care (1995)
Most employers have focused their attention on the cost of health care. There may be some consideration of the general reputation of various providers as sponsors and third party administrators develop their network providers. The author, however, explains how a new approach to quality undertaken by several major Cincinnati employers afforded them with scientifically relevant and statistically demonstrated measures of quality and clinical outcomes of area providers. Thus, they can be chosen and networks formed based upon far more rational criteria - identifying those doctors and hospitals who have shown the ability to "do it right the first time."
